Welcome to the 2017 to 2018 programme of guided walks from local railway stations!
These walks are free to rail ticket holders. Please wear suitable shoes or boots and bring a packed lunch and drink with you, as not all walks pass a pub or cafe.
The train times provided are from Norwich; please check times if coming from elsewhere. We aim to arrive back in Norwich by 1700 at the latest. All walk distances given are approximate.
Whilst every effort is made to ensure that the programme is as advertised, the walk leaders cannot take responsibility for any train cancellations. Whilst the walk leaders take every care before and during the walks, all participation is at the walker's own risk.
Dogs are welcome and there is no charge for them on the train. However, we respectfully ask that they are kept on a lead at all times as walks pass through fields with livestock and nature reserves.
Please note that not all walks start and finish at the same station so you will to buy a ticket to the further point. A Day Ranger ticket may be a lower priced option on some walks.
Walks are led by Mike Bugden and Ellen Oliver. New walk leaders and ideas are always welcome.
PLEASE NOTE THAT NOT ALL WALKS START AND FINISH AT THE SAME STATION.

The smaller stations on the Bittern and Wherry Lines lend themselves to getting out into the countryside for pleasure, relaxation and health. Bus links, especially the Coasthopper, extend opportunities for walking from the train. Ordnance Survey Explorer map OL40 covers the whole of the Wherry Lines, and the Bittern Line as far as North Walsham. Map 252 covers the rest, and maps 251 and 250 extend along the north coast. These maps are ideal for walkers and cyclists.
As well as its programme of guided walks, the Bittern and Wherry Lines have produced books of walks to follow from stations. Copies are available from Community Rail Norfolk, c/o Broadland District Council, Thorpe Lodge, 1 Yarmouth Road, Norwich NR7 0DU. Please send a cheque for £2.50 per book (including postage & packing), made out to Community Rail Norfolk. (They cannot be collected from Broadland District Council's offices.)
